They
change the oil regularly just like with a car

It's so odd to hear mention in an article that wind turbines last about 12 years not 25 and that when bearings fail they can spew out oil on the inside of the tower.
We thought they worked like a children's pinwheel. I thought that if there was black fossil fuel oil on the outside that a bird had carried a 55 gallon drum and dropped it accidentally. I had no idea that oil could be coating the inside without us having a clue from the outside that the massive machinery all dependent on massive quantities of fossil fuel oil could be leaking oil into the environment. I thought they were coloring book energy providers.
So when you drive past some of these wind plantations and see black oil on the outside it might be thicker on the inside and when you drive past the ones that are white they might have spilled on the inside oil. Only the service technician working for $275 per hour of fossil fueled labor energy knows for sure.
They are complex mechanisms that also draw energy from the electrical grid to make them function.
"To keep their workings lubricated and operating, wind turbine gearboxes have oil-reservoirs, like the sump in a car engine, and – like a car engine – the oil needs to be drained and changed on a regular basis."
